About the Album:

Impromptu is a collection of solo piano pieces composed and improvised by Neil between 1994 and 2007. These pieces move beyond the generic "New Age" classification usually associated with contemporary solo piano music. They cross the style spectrum from gentle Chopinesque waltzes to thunderous percussive displays to ethereal improvisations. Some of the works presented here were composed especially for this project, while others come from spontaneous improvisations that Neil recorded on a whim years ago.

"There's something both limiting and liberating in confining myself to my ten fingers and a piano. My listening tastes lean more toward large production arrangements. It has been so rewarding to get back to what matters most in music: melody and the rhythm and the harmony that supports it. I hope you'll enjoy listening to this as much as I have creating it!"

REVIEWS:

"Impromptu is highly recommended if you enjoy a bit more complexity and substance in your piano music."

Kathy Parsons, MainlyPiano.com

"Please pass my compliments to Neil on his piece 'Stars' as inspiring and very well done. When someone like me stops and listens to it to the end, and then plays it for others, in its entirety, that in itself is testimony to just how good I believe it is."

Diane (a fan)

"'Jig' is wicked cool. You have such great touch and phrasing. The thing I love most about your music is how it's always on the move. Each chord and modulation effortlessly go somewhere, always with purpose. Nice."
